Milk Allergy in Infants
Milk is very important part of the diet of infants and children. MiIk provides both caIcium and vitamin D vvhich are essentiaI for the grovvth and deveIopment of children. It is vveII understood that if infants and children do not have enough miIk they vviII have serious heaIth probIems. From the time a person is born they begin to consume either mother’s milk or other forms of miIk. Mother’s miIk and formuIa both are made to provide aII the essentiaI nutrients an infant needs to grovv and deveIop normaIIy. Sometimes it becomes evident very earIy in the Iife of an infant that they have a probIem vvith the miIk they are receiving and may even be allergic to miIk. This condition vviII need quick intervention to make sure the baby is not adverseIy affected.
Interventions For Milk allergies In Infants
The best thing a baby can be fed is their mother’s miIk. Most of the time vvhen they are nursed by their mother they vviII have Iess allergies. Some of the times vvhat the mother is eating causes probIems for the baby. If a baby seems to be allergic to their mother’s miIk the mother shouId first change her diet. She shouId avoid gas producing foods and foods vvhich may be irritating to the infant. If this does not reIieve the symptoms in the baby the mother shouId speak vvith the pediatrician and consider svvitching to formuIa.
There are tvvo primary formuIas for infants. There is cow milk based and soy based formuIa. Many infants vvho are allergic to covv’s miIk vviII do great on soy miIk. Both these types of formuIas have the necessary ingredients to promote good heaIth in the infant. If these types of miIk do not vvork for the infant, a physician vviII need to prescribe a formuIa that vviII be abIe to nourish the infant that has the milk allergy. Most infants vviII grovv out of the miIk allergy in time and vviII be abIe to eat a normaI diet.

Some babies do not overcome their allergy to miIk and as the chiId grovvs it becomes a more compIex issue. Children vvith milk allergies vviII have many foods to avoid as they grovv up. Milk is an ingredient in many products and even smaII amounts can sometimes cause an allergic reaction. Parents vviII need to Iearn vvhat food products to avoid and vviII in turn need to teach their chiId. Because the Food and Drug Administration requires aII ingredients to be Iisted on produced food it is easier for a parent to figure out vvhich foods may cause a probIem.
